BREAKING NEWS!! ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Progress Pittsburgh to Host Democratic US Senate Candidate Dr. Chuck Pennacchio

Newly formed progressive coalition Progress Pittsburgh (www.progresspittsburgh.org) will host a reception for United States Senate candidate Dr. Chuck Pennacchio on Friday, April 1st, 2005 at 5:30 pm at Roland's In the Strip.

The event is looking to give Pittsburgh area residents an opportunity to meet and speak with Dr. Pennacchio on his views as well as to ask pointed questions of his platform and goals.

Dr. Pennacchio is a declared Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Rick Santorum. Dr. Pennacchio currently serves as the History Program Director at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and is currently the only pro-choice candidate in the race.

On February 22, the Pennacchio campaign made national news by capturing, on video, and publicizing via the campaign website to twenty thousand visitors, Republicans serenading Rick Santorum with chants of, “Hey hey, ho ho, Social Security has got to go.”

Progress Pittsburgh is a coalition of progressive activists and organizations in the Pittsburgh area seeking government reform. The organization brings together groups such as Democracy for Pittsburgh, EverybodyVOTE, Ground Zero Action Network, thisishappening, and the Pittsburgh League of Pissed Off Voters.

Progress Pittsburgh has been successful in hosting a series of happy hours aimed at engaging young professionals in local politics. They have played host to Pittsburgh mayoral candidates and are aiming to create a bloc of 20,000 informed progressive voters that can be mobilized to change the shape of local politics.
