Urban Democracy- The Progressive Culture War Thursday, March 24, 2005 Bob O'Connor: No Debate, No PlanDisclaimer: I do not believe that copy and paste is a trait that journalists should undertake. Like a certain... um... fake journalist...**coughGANNONGUCKERTcough**. Good thing I am not a journalist.--Two debates refused by O'Connor campaign-- PITTSBURGH- Today Michael Lamb criticized Bob O'Connor for not participating in a debate scheduled for this Thursday, March 24, and another debate scheduled for March 31st. "Bob O'Connor is making it clear to the citizens of Pittsburgh that he does not want to talk about the issues that affect our city by ducking out of two debates. This move by O'Connor also shows that he has no plan to put this city on the right track," said Lamb. In the past two weeks, Bob O'Connor canceled his participation in a March 31st debate at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater sponsored by the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP), the Urban League, Pittsburgh’s Young Professionals (PYP) and other organizations. Just this morning, the Lamb campaign was informed that a scheduled March 24th debate at CMU sponsored by the Pittsburgh City Paper, PCTV and WRCT, would not take place. Lamb said, "I eagerly look forward to engaging in debates about the future of our city. The day that Bob O’Connor announced, I called for a series of debates. While Bob O'Connor was president of City Council he was part of bringing this city to the brink of bankruptcy. If we have no opportunity to debate, why should we believe that Bob O'Connor will do anything to put Pittsburgh back on the right track?" "Pittsburghers are proud of their city but no so proud of their government. I offer new leadership for our city, not the failed politics of the past," said Lamb. A lifelong Pittsburgher, Michael Lamb knows we need a new generation of leadership to recapture the confidence that has always made us proud of this city. He has bold and realistic plans to foster economic development, to revitalize neighborhoods, to upgrade housing and to bring in the new jobs that our community needs and deserves. # # # 0 Comments: |
